Traffic Intensity
In 2014, traffic intensity was the highest in the state road sections near the capital city, i.e., in Riga region. On average, 37 000 vehicles per day (AADT – annual average daily traffic) were travelling on the road A10 Riga – Ventspils, section Riga border – Jūrmala; 34 300 vehicles per day were taking the road A2, section Riga border – A1 (A2 km 14.1).
Almost 20 000 vehicles per day were travelling on the road A6, section Riga – Ogre, also the road A7, section Riga border – turn to Ādaži (km 5.6), the road A2, section A1 – Inčukalns, the road A8, section Riga border – turn to Ozolnieki (P100).
In 2014, traffic intensity from 9000 to 14 000 vehicles per day was established on the road A1, section Ādaži intersection – Saulkrasti bypass, the road A2, section Inčukalns – Līgatne, the road A3, section P11 – Valmiera overpass, the road A7, section Ķekava – Iecava, the road A9, section P106 – Liepāja, and the road A10, Jūrmala bypass.
Comparatively lower traffic intensity within Riga region was on the road A3, section Inčukalns – Ragana (7300 AADT), on the road A1, Saulkrasti bypass (7000 AADT), on the road A9, section A5 – turn to Kalnciems (5700 AADT).
In 2014, relatively high traffic intensity was on Riga bypasses, roads A4 and A5 (7700 – 17 600 AADT).
The highest intensity of heavy traffic (2200 – 5000 AADT) was on the road A6, section Riga border – turn to A4 Riga bypass, on the road A10, section Riga border – Jūrmala, on the entire road A7, on the road A8, section Riga – Olaine, on the road A2, section Riga border – Garkalne.
Naturally, high intensity of heavy traffic (1400 – 3500 AADT) is on Riga bypasses, roads A4 and A5. It constitutes approximately 21 – 29 % of the total traffic intensity on these roads.
Relatively high intensity of heavy traffic was also on the following roads:
- Road A2, section Garkalne – turn to Cēsis, 1900 AADT,
- Road A3, Valmiera bypass, 1870 AADT,
- Road A8, section Olaine – Ozolnieki, 1700 AADT,
- Road A1, section Riga border – Salacgrīva, 1700 AADT,
- Road A6, section A4 Riga bypass – Ogre, 1700 AADT,
- Road A9, section Grobiņa – Liepāja, 1680 AADT,
- Road A6, section Aizkraukle intersection – Jēkabpils, 1600 AADT,
- Road A3, section Inčukalns – Ragana, 1460 AADT,
- Road A10, Jūrmala bypass, 1330 AADT.
The biggest proportion of heavy traffic is on the road A15, Rezekne bypass (48 %), A12 (35 %), and A14 (38 %).
